Computer Scientist
Keishla D. Ortiz-Lopez obtained her B.S. in Computer Science at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo (UPRA) in 2014. Her motivation to attend graduate school was mainly because the support of FemProf, CAHSI activities and Grace Hopper conferences. She also received her M.S. in Computer Science at Texas A&M University (TAMU) in 2017, where she decided to continue to get the Ph.D. in Computer Science. Her current research work focuses on applying machine learning techniques to analyze student data taking computing courses at TAMU considering their demographics information (e.g. gender, ethnicity/race) and courses activities (e.g. class participation, assignments, exams, etc.) to determine what factors lead some students to persist or dropout from a computing major. The main part of her Ph.D. project, based on the analyzed data, is to implement an intervention to recruit and retain students from underrepresented groups.
